Recreational programming enhances seniors’ quality of life in residential care. By providing additional support, planned leisure activities help older residents overcome barriers that may impede their ability to participate in opportunities that contribute to a fulfilling life.
The BCCPA has joined forces with the Ontario Long-Term Care Association and will be making an application to MITACS (a national non-profit located at UBC) to fund a PhD student intern to create a new Recreational Program Guide.
The intern be will identifying successful recreational programs and activities in residential care homes across Canada – with a focus in BC and Ontario, and develop a best practices, evidence-informed guide based on the findings.
The project should get underway this spring with the guide being released to our members later this year. There will be lots more to report on this in the weeks to come.
