BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC are pleased to recognize more nominees for the BC Care Provider of the Year | Long-Term Care award. These are individuals who exhibit exemplary commitment and passion in delivering and fostering the best quality of care for seniors across B.C.

Mia Hagen, St. Charles Manor
Mia was first introduced to the long-term care sector when she applied for a position in St. Charles Manor’s support services department during the first year of COVID. Mia consistently provides exceptional care that was personalized to each residents wants and needs. Being acutely aware of the importance of having enriching and engaging activities for each one of the residents, Mia was inspired to take on the role of Activity Assistant. Some activities she has organized include taking residents to a baseball game, the ballet, the local museum, butterfly gardens and to the beach.
Regardless of cognitive ability, she always finds ideas and activities to support all residents.

Alan Rey Aliansas, Sienna Glenmore Lodge
A Care Aid with Sienna Glenmore Lodge, Alan is committed to his job through showing up for both residents and his team. He provides exceptional care and does his best to ensure he contributes positively to the lives of residents. He engages well and takes an interest in the resident’s day, life, and their overall well-being, so much so that residents are excited when he has a shift. Residents respond positively to him and feel secure in his care. He is consistent and reliable which makes him an asset to his team and effective at providing thorough and consistent care.

Sara Jane Leachon, The Hamlets at Duncan
As an HCA – Med Assistant, Sara Jane always goes above and beyond for residents at The Hamlets at Duncan through both significant and little ways. Sara Jane takes a real interest in her residents, she learns their needs and wants and their history, the things that are important to them and the things that make them feel loved. She is an honest communicator not only with coworkers but also with her residents.

“[Sarah Jane] is always available to help out not only with staff but with the residents. When she is on the floor, we always know that the extra small things are done and with great care. We never have to be worried that things are being missed. Sara continues to follow best practice and adheres to policy for feeds and assistance. It is always nice knowing when she is on the floor, it makes for a fun, consistent day and the residents appear to really gravitate towards her. Sara Jane is such a genuine person; it emanates in all she does.”
Menna Singh, Bevan Village
Meena has been working at Bevan Village for 30 years as a Health Care Assistant and is well respected by her colleagues, leaders, and residents. As someone who thinks ahead and plans for what is to come, Meena always goes the extra mile to support residents and her fellow team members. For instance, she always ensures that there is an extra wheelchair for residents who are going out to an appointment, and also goes out of her way to find extra supplies for her colleagues. She even takes an extra moment with residents whether she is their caregiver that day or not, and has additional training to support her skills and abilities as a health care assistant.

Francis Majia, Clover Point Care (Trillium)
Francis has demonstrated outstanding dedication and commitment to residents at Clover Point Care (Trillium) for the past 8 years. As an HCA Francis always takes the extra time to make the resident feel their best when bathing and/or grooming. He is inclusive of family and makes them feel part of ours when they visit by offering them tea, coffee, snacks and encouraging them to participate in activity in and out of the home. With new staff, Francis is always willing to provide orientations and takes pride in doing so. All in all, Francis treats residents and their families with the utmost dignity and respect and is a mentor to both current and new staff.
