BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) and EngAge BC are pleased to provide an update that our newest Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (TRA) Training Program cohort officially commenced training last month. In partnership with Stenberg College and the Community Workforce Response Grant (CWRG) Program, a total of 18 students are receiving skills training to become TRAs.
The current group of TRA students hail from regions across B.C.:
- Armstrong
- Courtenay
- Kamloops
- Nanaimo
- Nelson
- Osoyoos
- Penticton
- Qualicum Beach
- Salmon Arm
- Summerland
- Vernon
- Victoria
Allied health care is a key component of supporting seniors to age well and maintain quality of life, however, there is currently a shortage of qualified TRAs employed in the province. BCCPA and EngAge received many strong applications from across the province during the program’s recruiting phase and will explore additional funding opportunities to help train more future TRAs.
Our current TRA cohort is expected to graduate in August 2024. We look forward to providing future progress updates and facilitating employment connections between members and graduates in these regions.
Thank you to our program partners and members for their ongoing support!
