Care to Chat: From Long-Term Care to Lasting Comfort

BC Care Providers Association is pleased to kick off its 11th season of Care to Chat with a captivating discussion that shines a spotlight on the transformation of palliative care in long-term care homes.

Death, a universal certainty often left unspoken, remains an undeniable part of life for us all. In the realms of long-term care, home to one of society’s most frail populations of older adults, palliative care serves as an indispensable pillar of support, offering solace and comfort to the individual and their families.

With our population aging and an increase in those residing in long-term care in their final chapters of life, the demand for palliative care services within these settings will continue to grow. As such, understanding the challenges and opportunities in providing effective and compassionate palliative care in long-term care has never been more pertinent.

This event will provide a platform for healthcare professionals, industry leaders, and advocates to engage in thoughtful dialogue about palliative care’s current landscape. Together, the panellists will delve into the obstacles and challenges, simultaneously highlighting innovative strategies to enhance the quality of palliative care provided within long-term care homes.

We invite you to join us on November 2nd at the Civic Hotel for this discussion as we collectively work toward improving the quality of life for those receiving palliative care in long-term care homes.

Panelists:

  • Terry Lake (moderator), CEO of BC Care Providers Association & EngAge BC
  • Clara Dyck, Education and Resource Leader at North Okanagan Hospice Society, SPA-LTC Research Partner
  • Kevin Harter, CEO of Luther Court in Victoria, former CEO of Victoria Hospice Society
  • Kelsey Fonda, Account Manager at Pallium Canada
