Yesterday, Prime Minister Trudeau announced $196.1 billion in federal funding for health care over ten years, with only $46 billion in new funding. BCCPA CEO Terry Lake spoke to this news on CBC National News and CBC News BC, particularly as it pertains to long-term care.
While there are plans to direct funds to health care workers, there are no funds allocated towards infrastructure. Lake noted that this lack of emphasis on long-term care is concerning because the national standards, which were released last week, will not be met.
Additionally, he stated that there needs to be more than money invested in health, and that a focus on innovation and better data is also necessary.
