Celebrating the second graduating class from our HCA Training Program

On April 29th Discovery Community College and BC Care Providers Association held a virtual ceremony to celebrate the graduation of the second class of students from our HCA Training Program, the three graduating cohorts were from Kamloops, Cowichan & Parksville. Due to gathering restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the last 2 ceremonies were required to be held virtually. This did not stop it from being a moving and heartfelt celebration among instructors, staff and students involved in the graduating class.

Everyone at BCCPA and Engage BC would like to congratulate these grads from our HCA Training Program, who deserve extra credit for their incredible dedication in completing the program during the midst of the COVID health crisis.

“To be able to step up during the time of a pandemic and putting yourself in harm’s way to look after our most vulnerable British Columbians, it’s refreshing and heartwarming to see people are willing to step up,” said BCCPA CEO Terry Lake during the commencement address of the ceremony.

“Today is because of the commitments and your dedication in your studies, we proudly call you graduates… congratulations on being one of the 46 graduate students from our 2nd graduating class!” said Project & Employment Services Coordinator of Discovery Community College Joanne Funk.

Graduation photos were taken weeks prior to the virtual celebration and the beautiful photos were shared in a presentation during the ceremony. Instructors and staff members who attended to celebrate the graduates’ accomplishments had a chance to share their joy and best wishes to the graduating class, and many students shared special moments with the attendees of the ceremony as they presented heartfelt speeches that expressed their pride, delight, and sense of achievement for completing the training program during the midst of a pandemic.
