This week, BC Care Providers Association announced the winners of the 7th Annual BC Care Awards which recognizes employees who provide superlative and compassionate care for seniors and in addition to having the respect and support of their peers.
In this profile, we feature 2020 Care Provider of the Year (Assisted Living) award winner Krista Jones from Strive Living Society.
Here’s what Krista’s colleague and nominator Lisa Vo had to say about her:
Krista goes above and beyond on a regular basis to provide tenants with quality care and a fun place to call home. Whether it’s doing extra exercises for a tenant, wearing silly costumes, or volunteering to help with events outside her regular time, she does not hesitate to give it her all in order to make tenants feel special and cared for. She is also excellent at jumping in and supporting the care staff with whatever is happening. She never has a “not my job” attitude, takes the time to listen and validate staff, and provides some much-needed lightness and fun to what can be an extremely challenging work environment.
During the pandemic, she has stepped up to provide even more tenant support than normal, especially when there were restrictions for the tenants in the early days/months of COVID-19. Without her presence, I believe that tenants would have struggled a lot more mentally earlier in the year when they could not see their family and friends at all.
Krista took it upon herself to be more available and check in more often with all of our assisted living residents at Liberty Place throughout the pandemic to make sure that tenants were doing okay and not declining in any way. This is on top of an already busy nursing schedule and increased responsibilities as a result of COVID-19. She has been constantly going above and beyond her job description to support the tenants, even if that means being run off her feet at times. Because I have not been able to be there in person for Liberty tenants (due to the single site order), I am eternally grateful for her commitment and positive influence at Liberty Place.
Krista Jones is deserving of the BC Care Provider of the Year award because of her work ethic, commitment, and positivity in the workplace. She does not shy away from hard work, she goes above and beyond to support our tenants, and is always ready to inject some much-needed fun and lightness into our work environment. Liberty Place is lucky to have her.
