We are thankful for all the work done by our front-line care staff — our housekeeping teams, dietary services, https://bccare.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/medcare-img22.jpgistrators, LPNs and RNs, recreational therapists, directors of care and management, and all those who ensure that residents are comforted and cared for.

Today we celebrate the work of health care aides right across Canada, and give thanks to the 35,000 who work in British Columbia. Each year Health Care Assistants have a day that they can call their own — where the provincial government proclaims Health Care Assistant Day.

Like the team seen above at Vancouver’s Three Links care home, we want to recognize their incredibly important work during a challenging year.

Health Care Assistants may have many different job titles including Community Health Worker, Residential Care Aide, Home Support Worker, Long-Term Care Aide, Home Health Aide, Continuing Care Assistant, and Personal Care Aide.

“British Columbians celebrated front-line health workers every evening throughout the early days of the global pandemic,” says BCCPA/EngAge BC CEO Terry Lake. “That appreciation extends particularly to everyone who provided direct care to the elderly residents in our long-term care and assisted living residences, as well as our community health workers providing support at home.
