BC Care Providers Association’s Board of Directors recently passed a motion to appoint a director who represents the interests of BCCPA’s assisted living members. This motion was recommended by BCCPA’s Governance Committee and reflects an ongoing expansion of the Association’s efforts to serve members of the continuing care sector who are delivering assisted living services to B.C. seniors.
“For years BCCPA has had several board directors who represent assisted living in B.C. However, this motion illustrates the Board’s intentions to expand BCCPA’s efforts in this important sector, in a way that is even more intentional and focused,” says Board President Karen Baillie.
Our expanding efforts on assisted living
Over the last year BCCPA has made huge leaps in support of our assisted living members in B.C., through the following activities and developments:
- The release of the Assisted Living, Tenancy Task Force Review.
- The onboarding of a Manager of Public Affairs for Assisted living, who will be responsible for ensuring that BCCPA is meeting the needs of providers in B.C.
- A province-wide listening tour to hear from assisted living providers about the issues and opportunities which are important to them.
- The launch of a working group of industry experts who are advising on addressing the recommendations made in the Assisted Living, Tenancy Task Force Review.
- A Forum on the Future of Assisted Living Under Bill 16, an event which boasted a specialist panel and received stellar attendance from providers across the sector.
Over the next several months providers can expect:
- A panel at BCCPA’s 2018 conference entitled B.C.’s Assisted Living Landscape: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, with special guests Dr. Kim McGrail (UBC), Ron Pike (Elim Village) and Sharon Stewart.
- Continued advocacy and stakeholder relations on Bill 16.
- Regular discussions with the Ministry of Health on Bill 16, with updates regularly communicated through M365.
- Regular opportunities for providers to share their voice about the opportunities to strengthen seniors care in assisted living.
