The BC Liberals have just announced that Michael Lee will be on stage with the NDP’s Judy Darcy for the special Care to Chat debate on seniors care taking place on February 23rd. Darcy is the Official Opposition Health Critic and Lee is running as the BC Liberal candidate in Vancouver-Langara. The event is expected to be sold out, but there are still a few tickets that remain.
Lee is a lawyer, community volunteer, and lifelong resident of Vancouver. According Lee he has “worked with people in Vancouver for 30 years to build a strong and diverse community”. He goes on to state “now, I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to continue this work at the provincial level, and bring a new, but experienced voice for our priorities to Victoria.”
A graduate of the University of Victoria law school, Lee is a partner with Lawson Lundell LLP, a leading Canadian business law firm based in Vancouver. He is also a board member with the YMCA of Greater Vancouver Foundation, and past chair of Arts Umbrella and UBC’s alumni board. A son of Hong Kong immigrants, Lee was born and raised in Vancouver, where he currently lives with his wife Christina. Together they have three young adult children.
This is not the first time the Care to Chat speaker series has provided an opportunity for our future political leaders to debate the future of seniors care. Prior to the federal election, a special debate was held with all of the major parties represented including Ken Hardie, M.P. and Dianne Watts, M.P.
“This is not an event you are going to want to miss,” says Daniel Fontaine, CEO for the BCCPA. “Seniors care is going to be an issue in this election. This debate offers an excellent opportunity for us to hear first-hand from the major parties regarding what they think should be done to reform and improve the system.”
The BCCPA has also extended an invitation to the Green Party but has not received confirmation as to who they plan to send or whether they will be in attendance. If you want to purchase a ticket for one of the first major political debates of the election season please click here.
