BC Care Providers Association’s (BCCPA) Care to Chat series returns on April 22nd with a compelling session featuring award-winning Globe and Mail health columnist André Picard.
André is one of Canada’s leading health and public policy commentators in Canada. A Globe and Mail staff writer since 1987, he has dedicated much of his career to shedding light on pressing issues in the healthcare system, especially on the challenges of the rapidly growing aging population.
A champion of healthy aging and age-friendly communities, André is the author of six bestselling books including Neglected No More: The Urgent Need to Improve the Lives of Canada’s Elders in the Wake of a Pandemic (2021), a timely piece that reveals the harsh realities in seniors’ care and the urgent need for more solutions.
André’s contributions to healthcare have earned him numerous accolades. He was named Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” by the Canadian Public Health Association and a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health. He also received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, for his dedication to improving healthcare.
Notably, André is an eight-time nominee for the National Newspaper Awards, Canada’s top journalism prize, and past winner of the prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism.
A graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, André has received honorary doctorates from six universities, including the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto.
