BCCPA presents another three nominees for the 2024 BC Care Provider of the Year Award | Home Health Award.
Nahim Ahmed – Health Care Aide, Global Senior Care
Nahin, a family physician in her home country, moved to Canada to build a better future for herself and her son. As an HCA and Care Manager, she consistently demonstrates exceptional reliability, compassion, and skill in her caregiving. Recently promoted to Care Manager, Nahin proactively identifies safety risks and health changes, ensuring timely adjustments to care. She remains deeply committed to her clients, assuring them that she will continue to provide personal care alongside her management duties.
Nahin is always looking to expand her knowledge, completing specialized training, including dementia care, and pursuing a Masters in Global Health. She exemplifies the highest standards of caregiving, going above and beyond in every aspect of her work.
“Nahin truly cares for the whole patient and cares for the emotional and psychological well-being of her clients. She brings comfort to her client during the most vulnerable times helping to ease their feelings of grief and sadness. One of her clients has been grieving the passing of her beloved husband and Nahin holds her hand, kisses her forehead and cries with her while comforting her.” For clients who experience grief, loneliness or anxiety, this emotional support can be incredibly valuable and improve their mental health, and we have seen this as a result of her care.” – Her manager
Ronilei (Ron) Dela Cruz – Licensed Practical Nurse, AllCare Nursing Inc.
Ron has been an invaluable member of AllCare Nursing since its inception, consistently embodying AllCare’s CARE values—compassion, accountability, reliability, and excellence in care. With over 26 years of experience as an LPN, Ron provides personalized, high-quality care to seniors and their families. Her calm demeanor helps diffuse tense situations, particularly with seniors experiencing sundowning. She is always punctual, reliable, and dedicated to easing the concerns of families through her skilled nursing care and compassionate approach.
Ron goes above and beyond in many ways. When short-staffed, she willingly takes on additional responsibilities, even outside her LPN role, to ensure seniors receive urgent care. She has also contributed to the development of policies and procedures, creating five evidence-based procedures with minimal guidance. Ron mentors new team members, teaching them to care for seniors with empathy and professionalism. Her dedication to providing education and resources empowers both clients and families, making her an exceptional, indispensable part of the team.
“Ron’s patience and dedication in teaching me and showing me how to provide person-centered and professional yet compassionate and empathic care is admirable!” – New team member
“Ron is amazingly patient and knowledgeable! She was so kind in teaching and showing me how to dress my mom’s wound to prevent infection. She also ensured that I had all the supplies I needed.” – Client’s daughter
Sheila Kerr – Home Support Worker, Shylo Home Healthcare
Sheila is the embodiment of consistency and excellence in caregiving. Countless testimonies from clients and their families attest to Sheila’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality care. Two of her clients exclusively request her services, as they believe her care is irreplaceable. Sheila often prioritizes her clients’ needs, willingly adjusting her schedule to spend additional time with them, demonstrating both her dedication to quality and her deep compassion.
A recent example of Sheila’s exceptional care involves a client who experienced multiple falls and significant pain. Sheila acted swiftly, calming the situation, ensuring the client’s safety, and positioning them comfortably. She promptly alerted the office and completed an incident report, all while keeping the client at ease. Going above and beyond, Sheila canceled personal plans to accompany the client to the hospital, staying there for several hours until a family member could arrive. This level of dedication exemplifies Sheila’s commitment to her clients’ well-being.
“Shinal has been instrumental in my care. From the moment that I started using Care At Home, Shinal was extremely knowledgeable with my complex care needs and she helped train the other staff. She recognized that not everyone is comfortable using a lift in a home and she assisted the Nurse manager with the training. She leaves me feeling respected and valued.” – A client
