I hope that all you nice seniors will make it though this virus. – Gio
Hang in there! We will all beat this disaster together.
This is a funny story about an eager young minister and his first visit to a senior’s home.
The young minister finally found a posting that paid a living wage and showed up bright and early on his first day. He even brought his guitar.
The residing minister was glad to see him and approved of the guitar, so all seemed to be going well.
“I have an important appointment this morning so I’m going to throw you right in the mix,” he told the newcomer. “It’s not a difficult one but we’ve been going to this old folks home for a couple years now and I’d like to not miss being there, if possible.”
The young minister asked what usually happened and was told he’d be asked to say the blessing for lunch and perhaps read aloud as the residents ate or, since he had his guitar, he might consider singing a tune or two.
The young cleric showed up at 11:30, shoes shined and guitar in tow. He was shown into the kitchen where they found a chair for him to work on his notes and ideas for the lunch presentation. They even brought him an iced tea and a bowl of peanuts.
He found a good prayer in his hymnal and, just in case he lost his stage jitters enough to sing, thought of two good songs he could play well enough for the lunchtime crowd.
He finished his iced tea and the last few peanuts just before noon and could hear the residents shuffling in to their tables for lunch. A kindly resident who helped with the lunch came over and shook his hand.
“Welcome, Father,” the old chap said. “You’re new, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” he replied with a smile. “Bit nervous – this is my first visit on the job, so to speak.”
“Oh, you’ll be fine,” the old fellow said. “Keep that guitar handy in case you need to fill some time. Do you need anything? Water or tea?”
“Oh no,” the minister said. “That was good iced tea and those peanuts were delicious.”
“Ah, you enjoyed those did you? Good, good,” the old guy said. “Glad you finished them up. Most of us can’t eat them because of our teeth. So we just suck the chocolate off and put them back in the bowl.”
How lovely, I have some sunshine here. Do you have some sunshine there? Spring showers are going to feed the gardens this week. I am thinking about you and sending you a big smile. Wishing that i could give you a big hug.

Hello! I know life is probably hard right now, but dont worry we will get though this. Just stay home most of the time and maybe go for some walks to get some fresh air. Call your love ones and check on them every now and then, also be careful. Hope u have a great day :) – Hailey, Maple Ridge
Hello!
I hope you are safe and well.
I started to feel the loneliness and isolation of quarantine.
So, my partner, Dr. Jake Turner, and I made a fable poem and photo series video called “Blue Becomes” about reunion after this time of social distancing.
Creating this project and sharing it with others has lifted my spirits and provided me with more hope.
I hope it does the same for you. Love – Veronica Haunani Fitzhugh, Brooktondale (NY)

You are important!! Take care of yourself during this time and don’t be afraid to speak up if there’s anything you need.
Times like these show us what really matters in life and what to be grateful for. Every older adult has my respect and admiration because you are a survivor, not everybody can make it to old age. Just like the many things you have survived to get to where you are today (and made you stronger) you will survive this!
I hope you are doing well and enjoying the little things (like ice cream) – Meeka Marsolais, Vancouver
