With seniors becoming the fastest growing demographic of pot users, the use of cannabis in the continuing care sector has become a hot topic. Insufficient knowledge on how to support, manage and monitor residents using medical cannabis has become a challenge.
Canopy Growth Corporation, a BCCPA member, has organized workshops in three B.C. locations which will address critical topics with a special focus on continuing care and supporting residents using medical cannabis.
The workshop is free for BCCPA members, and costs $25 for non-members.
Topics covered during the workshop include:
- Understanding of the endocannabinoid system and the pharmacologic properties of THC and CBD
- Summarize the potential therapeutic applications of medical cannabis with a focus on the elderly
- Discuss key considerations for dosing, titrating and monitoring
- Understand the Canadian regulations regarding the use of cannabis for medical purposes
- Discuss policy considerations when assisting a resident using medical cannabis
Other topics discussed could include:
- Building a medical cannabis policy
- Reviewing federal & provincial regulations
- Monitoring tools for medical cannabis
- Medical cannabis resources (online course)
- Reviewing the impact of legalization
