With Canada’s aging population and the associated increase in demand for seniors care services, securing the next generation of health care workers is more important than ever before. However, if the current labour market shortages are any indication, Canada may not be training enough care staff to meet the needs of our frail and elderly seniors.
On September 19th from 9 to 11 a.m., BC Care Providers Association will host an interactive workshop which will help you understand how to use federal and provincial immigration programs to hire direct care and allied health care professionals from abroad to fill positions in B.C.
The following representatives from the federal department of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and from the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) will present program requirements for temporary work permits and permanent residence:
Heather Michaud – Employer Liaison Network Officer, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
Heather Michaud is a Foreign Service officer with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). She holds a BA and MA from the University of Calgary. Since 2000, she has served in Canada’s international migration offices in Lebanon, Singapore, India, the USA, and Kenya as well as at IRCC headquarters in Ottawa. Her current role is as IRCC’s Employer Liaison officer for British Columbia. She shows Canadian employers learn how the immigration system can be used to support their hiring needs and help drive economic growth. Employer liaison officers across Canada provide up-to-date information for both temporary and permanent economic immigration programs as well as Express Entry.
Aireen Luney – Manager of Program Development and Promotion, BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP)
Aireen Luney is the Manager, Program Development and Promotion for the BC Provincial Nominee Program in the Ministry of Jobs, Trade, and Technology. Aireen leads strategic program development and promotion of B.C.’s economic immigration programs. Prior to joining the BC PNP, Aireen had extensive experience in all aspects of human resource management with the BC Public Service Agency. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria and speaks four languages.
Workshop participants will learn about the application process for these programs, and what resources and supports there are for employers looking to navigate both federal and provincial immigration programs. Workshop hosts will also provide time for questions and answers.
The workshop will take place at the SafeCare BC Training Centre in Burnaby and also be available as a webinar. Registration is free and open to BCCPA members only. Leaders and managers in the continuing care sector, including HR directors, are encouraged to attend.
