BC Care Providers Association presents two nominees for the 2024 BC Care Provider of the Year Award in the Long-Term Care category. Read about them below.
Karen Muir – Resident Care Attendant, AgeCare Mounta Ida Mews
In her ten years as a Resident Care Attendant at AgeCare Mount Ida Mews, Karen has shown unwavering commitment and high-quality care to our residents. She shows compassion and dedication in all of her resident interactions, from the daily moments of care, to encouraging and facilitating ways in which residents can be involved and engaged. She works hard to ensure that the residents she is working with have opportunities to participate in activities and find excitement in their days. In addition, despite having busy days filled with unpredictable situations, Karen makes time to sit with the residents and provide them with undivided attention, helping them to feel seen and providing all-important moments of connection.
The excellence of Karen’s care is clear through the thoughtfulness and inclusion of family during palliation. Through this sensitive time, Karen provides empathic support to family members and loved ones. Karen has a soft and gentle demeanour that is welcoming and greatly appreciated by all she interacts with during those difficult moments.

Asmeen Ramzan – Resident Care Aide, AgeCare Arbutus Care Centre
Asmeen is always focused on making life better for the residents she cares for. She truly gets to know the residents she cares for, and her attention to detail is unmatched, allowing her to quickly recognize a change in resident status which is crucial for ensuring timely interventions and maintaining quality care. She understands that care is not just physical, but also emotional and social. She can often be found sitting with and interacting with residents, spending quality time with them and getting to know them on a personal level. She approaches everyone she cares for with empathy and care, taking their concerns seriously and ensuring that they are acted on immediately.
Asmeen is not only an excellent advocate for those she cares for, she is also an amazing team member and supporter for her coworkers. She can often be found helping teammates with their tasks and providing helpful reminders about resident preferences.
Dedicated to providing the best quality of care, Asmeen is pursuing further education in the field of resident care. She has attended multiple educational sessions in order to learn, grow, and provide the best care possible to the residents she supports.
