Lara Strachan – Registered Nurse, St. Charles Manor
Lara, an RN at St. Charles Manor for over 20 years, is an outstanding example of compassionate, patient-centered care. Specializing in supporting residents with cognitive decline, Lara’s creative approach to redirecting residents and her ability to connect with even the most challenging individuals truly set her apart. She provides exceptional care while also mentoring her care team, ensuring that all residents are safe and well-supported. Lara goes above and beyond by offering personalized palliative care, providing comfort and support during residents’ final days. Her unwavering dedication and compassionate approach create a warm, calming environment that sets the standard for excellence in long-term care.

Laura Ball – Care Coach and Supervisor, Creekstone Care Centre
Laura Ball is a selfless and dedicated leader who exemplifies teamwork, compassion, and commitment. Starting as a care aide, she quickly rose to become one of the first care coaches and supervisors, ensuring the voice of the care team was heard and fostering collaboration with the nursing team. Laura went above and beyond when she left her home for a month to help open Silverstone, where she worked tirelessly, even sleeping in a resident room before the home officially opened. She onboarded over 60 care aides, provided training, and ensured residents received top-notch care during a challenging time. Despite her long hours and personal sacrifices, including caring for an aging parent, Laura maintains a positive and caring attitude, making a difference for residents and staff every day. Her unwavering dedication and passion for learning are truly commendable.

Mallory Gabel – Recreation Aide, The Hamlets at Vernon an Optima Living Community
Mallory is an incredibly dedicated team member at the Hamlets, known for her strong work ethic, compassion, and initiative. She goes above and beyond to enhance the residents’ experience, such as painting the dining room pillars with intricate designs because the residents love it, and organizing team Halloween costumes. Mallory also organizes staff appreciation events, ensuring vegan options are available, and personally picks up and paints new wooden flower boxes for the home. As the onboarding coach, she helps new staff integrate smoothly, and she actively contributes to developing high-quality programs. Her commitment extends beyond regular duties, with Mallory volunteering her time on days off to assist with events or helping residents by picking up library books. Always present and dependable, Mallory’s infectious smile, compassion, and creativity make her a valued member of the team and a constant source of joy for residents and staff alike.

During the transition to the new home, Maria went above and beyond to support residents and families, organizing meetings and addressing concerns to ease the move. She often stays late to gather information for new residents, ensuring personalized care and alleviating stress. Maria is always ready to assist with various problems, from technical issues to personal items, and has helped with physical moves when families are unable. Her unwavering commitment is evident in the consistent praise she receives from residents and families, who often refer to her as an “angel in disguise.”

Marivic Bondoc – Health Care Assistant, The Harrison at Elim Village
Marivic Bondoc has been a dedicated member of the Elim Village team since 2015, known for her professionalism, compassion, and integrity. She forms strong, meaningful connections with residents, always treating them with dignity and respect. One resident who has since passed said, “Marivic not only cares for me physically but also spiritually in the way she talks with me during and after my care.” Marivic goes beyond her duties, often visiting palliative residents after shifts to offer spiritual support. She tailors care plans to meet individual needs, ensuring both comfort and emotional well-being.
Her communication with families fosters trust and reassurance, often providing updates and easing concerns. Marivic also mentors new staff, sharing her extensive knowledge and expertise. Her dedication to quality care is evident in every aspect of her work, making a lasting impact on both residents and her colleagues.
