BC Care Providers Association is pleased to recognize another three nominees for the BC Care Provider of the Year in Assisted Living. In this post, we celebrate a handful of the individuals who exhibit exemplary commitment and passion in delivering and fostering the best quality of care for seniors across B.C.
Jackielynn Cedenio – Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Strive Living Society
Jackielynn has an innate ability to deeply understand residents’ emotional needs at Strive Living Society. Whether residents need space, a listening ear, or a friendly joke to lighten the mood, her ability makes her an intuitive and compassionate care provider especially as she tailors her care to each resident. Thanks to her calming and approachable nature, residents feel completely comfortable and safe approaching Jackielynn with their concerns even during their most challenging times.
Beyond her clinical duties, Jackielynn volunteers her time and creativity to organize memorable evening events like pop-up summer BBQs, Oktoberfest celebrations, and birthday parties, enhancing the overall well-being of residents. Building positive, trusting relationships with residents, Jackielynn consistently goes beyond the black-and-white scope of her duties, serving as a role model for her team and raising the standard for care delivery.
“Jackie is a good listener. She knows how to calm me down too and that’s not always easy. It’s always a better night if Jackie is working.”
“I can always go to Jackie for anything. Even if she can’t fix things, she listens to me and makes me feel like she cares.”
Joy Nga – Care Aide, Terrace East Assisted Living at Menno Place
As a night shift Care Aide, Joy plays a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and well-being of residents during the overnight hours. Her dedication shines in every interaction with both residents and their families. Providing comfort and companionship for residents on their journey, Joy ensures that residents who are palliative receive the best possible care. Families are confident that their loved ones are in the right hands with Joy, as she has a calm and compassionate demeanor that helps build trust with them.
Not only is Joy a source of support for colleagues, but she is also a mentor. She is always the first to offer assistance to colleagues during challenging situations, and often has stayed late to cover shifts to ensure care for all residents. She even spends extra time orienting newcomers, answering questions, and providing hands-on training that empowers them to succeed with confidence.
“Her commitment to our residents is unmatched, always delivering outstanding service with kindness and expertise.” – Night Nurse at Menno Place
“A hardworking, knowledgeable, and wonderful peer, she truly sets the standard for excellence in caregiving.” – Colleague and union representative
Lea Enriquez – Resident Assistant, Clarendon Court (Baptist Housing)
Lea has been a resident care aide at Clarendon Court since 2006. She prioritizes not only residents’ medical needs but also their overall wellness, encouraging them to engage in daily activities and empowering them to make their own life choices. Lea understands the value of nurturing residents’ remaining abilities to enhance their self-worth and dignity. Aware of the loneliness many seniors face, especially during Christmas, Lea actively seeks ways to spread joy and holiday spirit. She works closely with the team and families to meet residents’ needs while respecting their independence and autonomy.
“I have known and worked with Lea for a few years. She has a heart of gold. She gives true service and dedication to what she does. She goes above and beyond! I admire her positive attitude and hard work. She is one of those rare people that will go an extra mile to help others. It may be little things she may notice that a resident may need. But those little things still do matter and that for her to care carries much more worth than anything.” – Team Member
