BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is pleased to announce key updates to its Board of Directors following its 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on December 4, 2024. Marc Kinna (President and CEO, Baptist Housing) has been appointed as Board President, while Ron Pike (CEO, Elim Village) transitions to the role of Past President. Additionally, Gavin McIntosh (VP, The Care Group) has been appointed as Vice President while Angela Grottoli (CEO, Optima Living) assumes the position of Treasurer.
Further updates to Board of Directors included Angela Grottoli (CEO, Optima) and Ann Marife Leijen’s (CEO, Maplewood Care Society) re-election to their second, three-year team. The following were elected to their first, three-year term:
- Ernie Hee (Executive VP and Interim CEO, Element)
- Celeste Mullin (VP Corporate Business, Golden Life Management)
- Andrea Prashad (Senior VP, Resident Experience and Risk Management, Amica Senior Lifestyles)
- Sharon Ranalli (VP, Marketing and Communication, Chartwell)
During the AGM, outgoing President Ron Pike reflected on a successful year, highlighting the Association’s unified approach in areas like advocacy, events, and programs, as well as its role as an impactful collective voice for the sector. From advocacy to government relations to membership and events, CEO Terry Lake reported on BCCPA’s growth and accomplishments over the past year.
The membership received an update on the Association’s financial statements, and voted on four policy motions including:
- Coordinated Seniors Housing and Care Strategy – Calling upon the Government of British Columbia to review the continuum of elder care and seniors’ housing in the province to ensure that the system is aligned and coordinated.
- Long-Term Care Building Design & Capital Costs – Calling upon the Government of British Columbia to collaborate with long-term care operators and other sector stakeholders to review and assess recent capital investments and building design guidelines.
- Live-In Care – Calling upon the Government of British Columbia to review and update the Employment Standards Act regulation for live-in home support workers with the aim of providing affordable access to family-funded live-in care services while ensuring employment protection for home support workers, including provisions for working conditions, hours of work and overtime pay.
- Age-Friendly Housing Strategies – Calling upon local governments across British Columbia to develop comprehensive Age-Friendly Housing Strategies that accommodate the diverse housing needs and preferences of seniors, ensuring that all forms of housing, including independent living, assisted living, long-term care, and affordable housing, are considered and supported.
The meeting closed off with recognition of those who have tirelessly served the organization. Outgoing Past President Aly Devji was recognized for both his many years on the BCCPA board, as well his and his family’s pivotal and transformational work in the sector. Past President Ron Pike was thanked for his tremendous leadership as President for the past two years. BCCPA also recognized Former Director of Finance and Member Services Cora Schupp for her dedicated service over the past two years following her official retirement.
Following the AGM, BCCPA members came together for our Holiday Party, where service providers, commercial members, board members, and staff enjoyed a festive afternoon filled with networking, delicious food, drinks, and great conversation.
