FortisBC recognizes two BCCPA members for the 2024 Efficiency in Action Awards

BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is pleased to share that three member sites have been named recipients of FortisBC’s 2024 Efficiency in Action Awards, recognizing their efforts in saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Thanks to the support of BCCPA’s Energy Savings Program, Hawthorne Seniors Care Community and Baptist Housing (Evergreen Terrace and the Heights at Mt. View sites) participated in FortisBC’s Gas Engine Heat Pump (GEHP) Pilot Project, installing high efficiency heating and cooling systems in their homes. The latter also participated in FortisBC’s gas absorption heat pump (GAHP) early adopter program.

“We found out about this pilot program through our participation in BCCPA’s Energy Savings Program, where we were paired with an energy specialist to support us in making energy-efficient decisions for our building,” says Elissa Gamble, CEO of Hawthorne, in a recent blog post with FortisBC.

Participation in this pilot project has helped Hawthrone, Evergreen Terrace and the Heights at Mt. View to ensure the comfort and well-being of their residents. The pilot project brought benefits beyond reducing environmental impacts, reducing operational costs to help these organizations to redirect investments to enhance care for residents even more.

“Energy efficiency upgrades have significantly enhanced our organization’s operations by reducing operational costs, minimizing environmental impact, and improving overall sustainability,” says Erich Klein, Director of Sustainability and Maintenance at Baptist Housing.

“Reliability is critical for us to ensure the comfort and safety of our residents and all the people we care for. This innovative technology not only brings more reliability, but also improves energy efficiency. This helps us save money so we can spend it on care and service, where it matters most,” says Gamble.
