Today, the B.C. Ministry of Health announced a new 100-bed long-term care home in Kamloops, part of the provincial government’s commitment to creating 495 beds in the Interior Health region to meet the growing needs of the seniors’ population.
Located at 580 Shuswap Road East and overlooking the South Thompson River, AgeCare Sun Rivers is scheduled to open on October 21st, 2024. All rooms in the care home will be single-occupancy and publicly funded.
“Our seniors deserve to have access to high-quality care and support,” says BC Care Providers Association CEO, Terry Lake. “With the rapidly growing aging population and the increasing need for long-term care capacity across the province, this signifies a crucial step forward to not only help address these challenges, but also to ensure that seniors have access to long-term care services when they need them.”
Over the past five years, approximately $3.5 billion has been invested in long-term care, with further plans underway for additional beds in Kelowna, Nelson and Penticton. Continued investments in long-term care will be essential to addressing the challenges posed by the province’s aging population.
“We hope that investments in building long-term care beds across the province will continue well into the future,” adds Lake. “By making these investments now, we can ensure that every senior in B.C. can be confident in receiving the best care and support essential to their well-being.”
