Prepare for Wildfire Season: Essential Resources for Elder Care Providers

With wildfire season fast approaching, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) has developed a comprehensive resource database to support long-term care and assisted living providers in preparing for environmental emergencies. This toolkit serves as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for wildfire and emergency planning resources from various authoritative sources, including Health Emergency Management-BC (HEM-BC), regional health authorities, and other organizations.

What’s included:

  • Key Contact Information: Essential numbers and contacts for quick reference.
  • Inter- and Intra-Health Authority Relocation (IIHAR) Toolkit:  Guidelines and procedures for relocating residents, through all stages of preparation, evacuation, transportation, reception and repatriation.
  • Deployable Alternate Care Settings (DACS) Equipment Lists:  Inventory of equipment for setting up alternate care facilities.
  • Family Helpline: Dedicated support line for families of relocated residents during emergencies.
  • Situational Awareness Apps: Recommended apps to stay informed during emergencies.
  • Temporary Emergency Registration: Procedures for the temporary registration of healthcare workers.
  • Safety Resources: Resources from SafeCare BC can help operators keep their staff safer in extreme weather conditions.

You can easily access this toolkit on BCCPA’s website here. We highly recommend saving these resources on your phone for quick access during an emergency.
