BC Care Providers Association is pleased to announce that long-time broadcaster Jody Vance will be moderating our Care to Chat panel on dementia care next month.
A born and raised Vancouverite, Jody built her career in radio and TV in B.C. before her big break. With the launch of Sportsnet in 2000, Jody moved east to Toronto where she would make sports broadcast history, nationally, as host of Sportcentral AM.
Almost a decade later in 2009, Jody was called back home to Vancouver, returning to her radio roots. In 2011, while picking up a few fill-in sports shifts at CBC Vancouver and between hosting mid-days on SHORE104, she had the incredible opportunity to host the Canucks Stanley post-game show, “Seeking Stanley.” Shortly after, Jody’s career path took a turn out of sports and into full-time news and current affairs. In October 2011, Vance joined CITY-TV as host of Breakfast Television Vancouver. For five years viewers watched the evolution to where Vance finds herself now – a broadcaster who helps shape conversations that impact her community and offer opinions.
In the spring of 2016, Jody created her own brand, Broadcast Pirate Services Ltd. From then, she had worked as the go-to fill-in host with CKNW and penned a weekly column for the Orca. She also continues to co-host a podcast with former City Councillor George Affleck, write as a Canadian Correspondent for Al Jazeera, regularly appear on SIRIUSXM and hosts “First Glance with Jody Vance” on Equity.Guru. Most recently, Jody teamed up with her long-time radio colleague Lynda Steele on a weekly TV talk show called “Steele and Vance” on CHEK TV.
Throughout all of these adventures, Jody was essential care for her Dad, Bill, for more than a decade – first through stage 4 prostate cancer and then Alzheimer’s. From his first diagnosis, Bill asked his daughter to share his journey so that others might learn from him. A lifelong teacher, Bill lived to educate. He passed in June of 2021, yet Jody continues to advocate for those affected by both diseases.
Join Jody and our panel of exerts as they delve into crucial aspects in caring for people living with dementia.
