Update on the return of long-term care residents in the Okanagan

Last week, Interior Health began supporting the return of long-term care residents in the Okanagan following the reduction of wildfire threat in some areas. Since then, seniors from the following sites have successfully returned home:

  • The Highlands Retirement Residence
  • Glenmore Lodge
  • Lake Country Lodge Retirement and Care Community
  • Lakeview Lodge Community
  • The Vineyards
  • Brandt’s Creek Mews

With support from partners in the delivery of long-term care services, Interior Health is currently in the process of returning residents to Brookhaven Care Centre and Parkside Estates Assisted Living.

The one remaining site still not able to return home is Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna, due to the area still being on alert.

Overall, 531 residents have returned home, while 290 residents currently await repatriation.

Thank you to Interior Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Northern Health, Age Care, Sienna Living, Sussex Retirement Living and Baptist Housing for their continued support and for their efforts in ensuring the best care for our seniors during this crisis.

BCCPA and EngAge BC will continue to provide updates on the situation as they arise.

Anyone wishing to confirm their loved one’s current location can call Interior Health at 1-833-469-9800. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

*UPDATE – September 12, 2023*

Evacuation alert on Village at Smith Creek has been lifted as of Monday, September 11th, with repatriation beginning on the morning of Tuesday, September 12th.
