BCCPA and EngAge BC marks September 30th to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities
Thursday, September 30th marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. It is important for all Canadians, individually and collectively, to reflect on this tragic history and the continued impacts of residential schools, as doing so is a crucial component of the reconciliation process.

Along with SafeCare BC, our association has taken the measure to learn about truth and reconciliation as a team. We had the honour of meeting with Indigenous Thought Leader, Speaker, and Consultant Len Pierre, for an educational workshop to learn about the significance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We plan to create future opportunities for knowledge sharing, and conversations which cultivate culturally safe and welcoming care for Indigenous older adults.
BC Care Providers Association and EngAge BC are committed to reconciliation and will observe the day to allow our staff to participate in the ongoing reconciliation process.
