The EquipCare BC program funds topped up in 2020 are now officially depleted
In April 2020, the BC Care Providers Association was awarded a $10 million grant by B.C.’s Ministry of Health to develop and manage EquipCare BC, a province-wide program to bring vital infection control and infrastructure enhancements to long-term care and assisted living operators.
While the program started in April 2020 and was scheduled to operate for two years, all funds have been allocated to our care home applicants and we have temporarily wrapped up the program until additional funds are available.
The funding of EquipCare BC was divided into three application periods, the first period provided funding for infection prevention and control (IPC) in long-term care homes and assisted living operators, whereas the second and third periods continued to support IPC and funds were extended to purchase items that improved safety and quality of living in publicly funded homes as well.
“We are thankful for the support and investments from the Ministry of Health,” says BCCPA CEO Terry Lake. “EquipCare BC’s funding has been helpful in creating safer environments in long-term care and assisted living operators during challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
BCCPA will be seeking for funding renewal during the next available period in April 2022. We anticipate a continuation of support from the Ministry of Health as we proceed to enhance the safety and quality of life for residents and staff in care operating homes.
