The UBC Health Mentors program is a program designed to support students from different health disciplines to learn from and with a mentor who has a chronic condition or disability, or is a caregiver.
The program is looking for volunteer Health Mentors (or caregivers) who live with a chronic illness to share their healthcare expertise with UBC students to help them learn about patient centered care. The Program is a 9-month volunteer program in which adult mentors and/or caregivers meet 6 times with a small team of UBC students. As new healthcare professionals, the participating students will learn about patient-centered care and how providers can better support people with chronic conditions.
By being a Health Mentor you will be part of a pioneering program that contributes to the education of future health professionals. Participating Health Mentors should live in the Metro Vancouver area and be comfortable talking about their health condition. Due to COVID-19, Health Mentors groups will be meeting virtually through Zoom. The program starts in September 2021 and will run until May 2022.
