International Women’s Day (hashtag: #IWD2021) marks an important celebration that recognizes the achievements of women all over the globe. More than ever, this celebration aims to continue to drive change for women and encourages a more gender inclusive world. On behalf of all of us at BC Care Providers (BCCPA) and EngAge BC, we are proudly acknowledging the vital role of women in our British Columbia’s continuing care sector.
Quick facts:
- According to CIHI, women represented 90.7% of regulated nurses in British Columbia (RNs, NPs, LPNs, RPNs).[1]
- The majority of HCAs in a sample of long-term care homes in Western Canada were women (89.7%).[2]
- Family caregivers are more likely to be women (54%).[3]
Women in seniors’ care are leading the charge for change, they are holding the hands of B.C.’s most vulnerable and they are making sacrifices to care for seniors in their own lives. Whatever their role, we want to recognize the critical part which women play in caring for seniors in B.C.
