Long-term care and assisted living operators are now being invited by the provincial government to express their interest in delivering the Health Career Access Program.
The Health Career Access Program (HCAP) is a paid work and training initiative for individuals seeking an entry point to employment in health. Over a period of 12-16 months, individuals will receive paid employer-sponsored training leading to a provincially recognized Health Care Assistant (HCA) credential.
The HCAP was first announced at a September 9th news conference, as one of many substantial new investments by the Government of British Columbia to support seniors living in long-term care and assisted living during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the expression of interest portal for job candidates opened last month, employers in the long-term care and assisted living sector are now being invited to apply before the November 3rd, 2020 deadline.
All long-term care and assisted living residences in British Columbia that employ registered Health Care Assistants (HCA) are eligible to apply, including both private-pay and publicly subsidized operators. Home health and independent living operators are not eligible at this point in time.
Participating employers will be responsible for providing their new employees with a standardized orientation, appropriate oversight, work-integrated learning, and offers of employment once they graduate as a registered care aide.
Care providers can express their interest by completing an Employer Expression of Interest (EEOI) form here. The PDF form can be found here.
