#BCCPA2020 Conference: How to lead with compassion in times of crisis

“Be kind, be calm and be safe.”

These words have become a familiar mantra to most British Columbians over the past several months, the comforting catchphrase of B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

With a global pandemic unfolding across the world, many have wondered what contributed to B.C.’s success in the early months of the pandemic, particularly when compared to many other urbanized jurisdictions.

While there are undoubtedly numerous factors at play, there is an emerging consensus that Dr. Henry’s leadership style has played a significant role in B.C.’s early success at “bending the curve.”

Praised by The New York Times for her intelligence, humility, collaboration, empathy and emotion, Dr. Henry is a classic example of leading with compassion through times of crisis.

In this dynamic session, Mary Ellen Sanajko, Senior Coach and Founder of Conduit Coaching, will explore the principles of compassionate leadership, explaining how B.C.’s top doctor has used these approaches to create an effective “Team B.C.” approach.

Delegates will come away with practical approaches and strategies to implement this leadership style into their daily interactions with staff and colleagues.

Debra Hauptman, CEO of Langley Lodge will speak to their experiences managing long-term care through coronavirus, and how the principles of compassion and empathy inspired their teams to meet these challenges head-on.

This year’s virtual conference, COVID-19: What Set B.C. Apart, will include compelling and innovative leaders from all corners of the globe. Join speakers like Mary Ellen for a series of keynotes, panel discussions, and webinars. Ticket options include single-day passes ($99),  five-day passes ($399) and discounted group rates.
