A new feature page launched on BC Care Providers Association’s website provides a record of key milestones affecting B.C.’s continuing care sector in the lead up to and during the global pandemic. While COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on many communities, seniors care providers in B.C.’s Lower Mainland have been hit hard with dozens of outbreaks and numerous resident fatalities.
The BCCPA/EngAge BC Pandemic Response Timeline page will be regularly updated as new developments warrant, and serve as a public record of the actions of BCCPA/EngAge BC, as well as other sector partners such as SafeCare BC. The timeline also showcases the “Team BC” collaborative approach taken with the provincial government and health authorities that has been credited with helping to ‘flatten the curve’ of coronavirus infections across the province.
“It’s my hope that the Pandemic Response Timeline page will serve as a useful reference going forward on what steps were taken to protect residents, their family members and staff at our long-term care, assisted living, independent living residences as well as home health providers in the face of the coronavirus threat,” says Mike Klassen, BCCPA/EngAge BC Acting CEO.
“It also traces the leadership demonstrated by our organization and others as the health crisis elevated early in the year. It serves as a reminder that we must remain vigilant as we prepare for an anticipated second wave of the pandemic.”
The Pandemic Response Timeline includes hyperlinks to key events and online releases. It is also supported by extensive documentation archived by BCCPA staff. The Timeline will be reviewed every 2 weeks and updated to reflect important new events.
