SafeCare BC’s Operation Protect is nearing its goal of collecting one million donated items of personal protective equipment for health care workers. We need the public’s help in reaching this milestone number.
In response to a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers, SafeCare BC launched Operation Protect seven weeks ago and invited individuals and businesses to donate unused and unopened equipment, such as masks, gloves, protective gowns, and hand sanitizer. British Columbians responded in a big way. With the support of its partners and more than 570 donors, 765,000 items of personal protective equipment have been collected so far.
These critically important supplies are already helping to keep workers in long-term care homes, hospitals, assisted living residences, and home care operators safe. But the need is still there. The
COVID-19 pandemic continues to strain the global supply of personal protective equipment, with increased use, not only in health care but in other sectors that previously didn’t use PPE for their operations.
“The response we have received so far from individuals and businesses by donating supplies and equipment has been inspiring,” says Jen Lyle, CEO, SafeCare BC. “With PPE supplies still tenuous, we are inviting British Columbians to help us reach our goal of collecting one million items of personal protective equipment to help keep health care workers safe.”
