SafeCare BC releases latest PPE survey

In a follow-up to its April 11 survey on personal protective equipment (PPE), SafeCare BC conducted another survey on April 23. Over 540 respondents replied to the survey over the course of seven hours. The results show a promising trend, but there are still a significant number of continuing care providers reporting they have three days or less of any one PPE item.

  • 42% of care providers indicated their organization had three days or less of any one PPE item. This compares to 69% in the April 11 survey.
  • 27% of care providers say they have three days or less of surgical masks. This is an improvement from the April 11 survey, in which 38% reported having three days or less.
  • 70% report having no N-95 masks (45%) or only enough to last up to three days (25%). This does, however, compare favourably to the April 11 survey results in which 77% reported the same.
  • 42% of care providers say they have no protective gowns (15%) or only a three-day supply (27%). This compares to the April 11 results, in which 48% had either no gowns or only a three-day supply.
  • 32% of care providers have either no eye protection (13%) or only enough to last three days (19%). This compares to 51% of respondents in the April 11 survey.
  • 40% of care providers anticipate running out of gloves within a week. This is similar to the April 11 survey results, with 44% anticipating running out of gloves within a week.
  • Just over half (51%) of respondents anticipate running out of hand sanitizer within a week. This compares to 62% as reported in the April 11 survey.
