Dr. Samir Sinha to be keynote speaker at 20/20: A Vision for Seniors

BC Care Providers Association is pleased to announce Dr. Samir Sinha will be the keynote speaker at the 43rd Annual Conference, which takes please May 24-26th, 2020 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

“Dr. Sinha is a distinguished leader in the field of geriatric care and a passionate advocate for older adults,” says BCCPA CEO Daniel Fontaine. “He was a panelist at the opening plenary of our 2017 conference, and we could not be more thrilled to welcome him as the keynote speaker in 2020. We are confident his vision for seniors’ care will inspire and energize us all.”

The Annual Conference titled “20/20: A Vision for Seniors” will take a retrospective view of the past twenty years and focus on what the seniors’ living and care sector should look like twenty years from now.

In particular, the focus will be on the broad range of seniors’ living and care services and supports, including long-term care, home health care, assisted living and independent living. Delegates will look at best or promising practices being employed internationally which could also be implemented in Canada or British Columbia, and discuss how we can work collaboratively to meet the needs of a rapidly aging population with increasing expectations.

Dr. Samir Sinha is the Director of Geriatrics, Sinai Health System and University Health Network. He is also the Director of Health Policy Research and Co-Chair of the National Institute on Ageing.

In 2012, he was appointed by the Government of Ontario to serve as the expert lead of Ontario’s Seniors Strategy.

He is also an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

A Rhodes Scholar, after completing his undergraduate medical studies at the University of Western Ontario, he obtained a Masters in Medical History and a Doctorate in Sociology at the University of Oxford’s Institute of Ageing. After returning to pursue postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, Dr. Sinha went to the United States where he served as the inaugural Erickson/Reynolds Fellow in Clinical Geriatrics, Education and Leadership at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Sinha’s breadth of international training and expertise in health policy and the delivery of services related to the care of the elderly have made him a highly regarded expert in the care of older adults.
