Last Tuesday, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) held its annual general meeting, which was followed up by an animated debate on the future of seniors care featuring candidates from the four major political parties speaking in front of over 100 seniors and care providers. If the day’s agenda was not already full enough, EngAge BC then held its inaugural strategic planning session that afternoon. Eight leading representatives of B.C.’s seniors’ living and wellness sector joined EngAge BC’s Member Council chair Melanie Reinhardt and CEO Daniel Fontaine for a spirited discussion about the organization’s future.
“The EngAge BC Member Council will have the mandate to give strategic direction to the organization,” says Fontaine. “Furthermore, we want it to do that work independently from the BCCPA board.”
On the docket that afternoon were plans for how to advocate for issues that are unique to EngAge BC members, as well as the strategic direction of EngAge BC’s core programs – Route 65, Assurity and the Seniors Living Expo.
“This is an exciting time of growth and change for EngAge BC,” adds Fontaine. “Our membership and others from the seniors’ living and wellness sector have challenged us to design something unique for the private pay side of this community—whether it’s IL, AL, LTC or home health. With the support of our accomplish council, I am confident we will deliver on those goals.”
In the weeks ahead, EngAge BC will be announcing the rest of our Member Council, and sharing information about the progress of the ongoing Assurity consultations and upcoming forum. EngAge will also be announcing new additions to EngAge BC’s membership.
Independent living providers who join EngAge BC will be charged no membership fees until June 2020, at which time, rates will be evaluated. EngAge BC members will have access to the following benefits:
- A voice in policy development
