The Good, The Bad & The Ugly of Recovery @ Work programs

Are you struggling with workplace injuries? Not sure how to retain your most experienced workers? Dreading another doctor’s note prescribing “two weeks off work”?

BCCPA and SafeCare BC are here to help with a new interactive workshop and webinar for care providers that will fill you in on the good, the bad and the ugly of Recovery at Work programs. New Labour Laws: Impacts for Seniors Care
J. Najeeb Hassan, Partner at Roper Greyell LLP

Human Resource (HR) decisions and managing your workforce can be a tricky ordeal. Complex legal framework and continuously updating labour laws can often lead to confusing and uncertain HR scenarios. For care homes and health care operations, this complexity is even more rigorous with the added dynamic of seniors in care.

This interactive workshop will help care home and home health operators understand how recent and upcoming changes to the BC Employment Standards Act and the Labour Relations Code many affect their business. Workshop participants will be advised of the most significant implications for both unionized and non-unionized employers in BC’s continuing care sector.

Successorship rights, union certification, employer’s right to communication, overtime, and leaves are just a few of the topics that will be included in the discussion. Time will also be provided for questions and answers.

Register to attend the workshop on October 22nd, either in-person or online.

Date: October 22, 2019
Time: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Qmunity’s Queer Competency Training

Join BCCPA, EngAge BC and Qmunity for a four-hour workshop, intended to help you build the queer competency you need to support LGBTQ2+ seniors.

Through facilitated conversations you will focus on creating inclusive spaces and building out allyship. You will learn about:

  • LGBTQ2S+ terminology and definitions.
  • The gender binary and spectrum models.
  • Gendered language, including pronouns and how to respectfully ask people which pronouns they prefer.

You can expect to come away with a better understanding of your LGBTQ2S clients, particularly who they are and what their experiences.
Come prepared to participate in self-reflection, for example:

  • Self-reflection exercise completed to illustrate how, even as allies, we oppress and/or act as bystanders during moments of oppression, before discussing ways in which we can disrupt our own biases and prejudices of those around us.
  • We will examine ways in which complicit or explicit homophobia and transphobia manifest, while discussing the similarities and differences between discrimination, prejudice and oppression, as it applies to the LGBTQ2S community.
