#BECAUSEYOUCARE: National campaign urges MPs/MLAs to visit long-term care homes from Feb 10-16

The Canadian Association for Long Term Care (CALTC) is urging Members of Parliament across the country to show their commitment to Canada’s seniors by participating in the #BECAUSEYOUCARE campaign.

This first-of-a-kind national initiative aims to raise awareness about the unique challenges the long-term care sector continues to face.

CALTC will be calling upon on all Members of Parliament to visit at least one care home in their riding during the week of February 10 to 16, 2019. A full listing of MPs who schedule a visit or who pledge to visit a home will be available on caltc.ca.

BC Care Providers Association is throwing its support behind the #BECAUSEYOUCARE initiative by inviting B.C.’s MPs and MLAs to visit care homes during the campaign and interact directly with staff and residents.

Although CALTC is focusing its national campaign on getting MPs to visit care homes across Canada, BCCPA members are encouraged to also invite their local MLA, mayor or city councillor to drop in for a tour.

“This is a unique opportunity for politicians to observe firsthand the work that is being done to meet the needs of seniors in long-term care and gain more insight into the day-to-day challenges facing workers and residents,” says Daniel Fontaine, BCCPA CEO and Chair of CALTC.

As a first step, please download and prominently display a #BECAUSEYOUCARE campaign poster on bulletin boards and at reception areas in your care home to raise awareness.
