Risky Business: #CareToChat to tackle reputation of seniors care

Some say that seniors care is a “risky business.” Indeed, mitigating risk has become central to the delivery of care. But what happens when things go wrong?

On a too frequent basis there are media reports from anywhere in the world alleging mistreatment of seniors or that elderly or frail individuals are receiving sub-standard care. These news stories often feed into a public perception that seniors are being treated poorly by the very institutions established to help them at a time they are most vulnerable.

Furthermore, when the public thinks things are not going well, it can affect staff morale and make it difficult to attract people to work in a sector that is growing at a record-breaking pace.

Most seniors when surveyed are quite satisfied with the care they receive. As well, care providers themselves are generally very proud with the work they do to improve quality of life for seniors.

So how should seniors care providers respond to difficult situations?
