#BCCPA2018 Session: What does a Palliative Approach look like in Residential Care?

There is increasing concern that Canada’s health systems will not be able to meet the needs of a rapidly growing older adult population. People in residential care often live with progressive and life-limiting illnesses. They require a person-centred palliative approach to care that focuses on improving their quality of life through early identification, assessment, and treatment of their multiple complex symptoms and concerns in a wide range of life domains: physical, psychosocial, and spiritual.

This workshop panel, consisting of leaders in health care and research, who are part of the Initiative for a Palliative Approach in Nursing: Evidence and Leadership, will deepen participant’s understandings about what a palliative approach is, why this approach is important, and how it can improve the quality of living and dying for persons living in residential care and their families.
