Burnaby, B.C. (April 11, 2018) – How would you choose a quality home support provider? Ask a friend? Go online? Thousands of British Columbians are faced with this question each year.
As part of its longstanding support of home care and home support providers in British Columbia, the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) launched a new public survey seeking opinions on how we choose a home support provider for ourselves or for family members. Survey responses will be used to craft a new quality assurance program for home health providers of all sizes.
The short 5-minute survey is available for anyone in B.C. who either has used a home support provider, or is seeking one for themselves or a family member.

“When anyone is looking for reliable home support, where do you start and how do you determine if you are getting quality care?” asks Mike Klassen, VP of Communications and Stakeholder Relations. “Every B.C. family wants to make an informed choices about home support services, and home health providers seek tools to grow their reputations for delivering excellent service. This survey will ultimately help both the consumers and providers of home support.”
Earlier this year, BCCPA launched the quality assurance in home support project which aimed at developing a quality assurance model which is embraced by B.C.’s home support sector, accessible to providers of all sizes and founded in best practices.
BCCPA is being assisted by a working group of industry experts who are overseeing the development of the quality assurance model. Gevity Inc. was selected to conduct research and industry outreach on behalf of the Association. Home health providers of all sizes around the province are being asked to conduct their own survey.

“Our survey of home health providers will help us to build a quality assurance measurement that they can adopt, regardless of the size of the company,” adds Klassen. “There are hundreds of small-to-medium sized home support companies in B.C. and they must be included in an initiative like this.”
The surveys will run until early May, with a follow up report being made available at bccare.ca later in the spring. For background on the Home Support Quality Assurance initiative and advisory board, visit bccare.ca/hssurvey.
The quality assurance in home support survey follows the release of Health Begins at Home: Strengthening B.C.’s Home Health Care Sector, a paper that outlines several bold and innovative approaches to strengthen and sustain B.C.’s home health care sector.
