BCCPA announces “VISAN”—a new Vancouver Island Seniors Administrators Network

Each health region has its own dynamics based upon numerous factors, including geography, the local economy, and the availability of health care services. When opportunities to strengthen seniors care emerge, they are often best addressed through local collaboration.

In the Fraser Health region, one successful example of this is the work being done through the Fraser Area Administrators Network (FAN). Through regular meetings FAN enables stakeholders to share information and expertise regarding issues and opportunities occurring throughout the Health Authority.

While forums exist for continuing care providers in Metro Vancouver to discuss pressing issues and share ideas, there is no equivalent forum for their Vancouver Island counterparts. As such, the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) is looking to mirror the work done through FAN in order to establish a new https://bccare.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/medcare-img22.jpgistrators network, the Vancouver Island Seniors Administrators Network (VISAN). This network will serve as forum for the exchange of information and ideas, to address common issues, and generate solutions to improve the effectiveness of continuing care service delivery.

VISAN will be comprised of voluntary representatives of continuing care providers of long-term care and assisted living within the geographic boundaries of Vancouver Island (Island Health). A second component of VISAN, for home care providers, will be created if there is sufficient interest and engagement by home care providers on Vancouver Island.

“We know that providers across Island Health have strong and successful relationships with their local Health Authority, this just provides one more forum for collaboration to take place,” says Mike Klassen, VP of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, BCCPA.

While VISAN will be initially facilitated by the BCCPA and co-chaired by BCCPA members, all seniors care service providers on the Island are invited to participate regardless of whether they are BCCPA members.

You can expect to hear more from BCCPA as we look to coordinate an inaugural meeting early this spring, but in the meantime, we would love to hear your thoughts! Please connect with Justine Hall, Manager of Partnership Development to share your feedback.
