2018 BC Care Awards Winners Announced

Record number of nominations for this year’s awards for excellence in seniors’ care

Burnaby, BC (January 5, 2018) — BC Care Providers Association, the organization that represents the majority of non-government seniors’ care providers in British Columbia, is pleased to announce the winners of the 5th Annual BC Care Awards. The awards recognize excellence in the delivery of seniors’ care in both home care and residential care, in promoting and supporting workplace safety, and as well to acknowledge longstanding leadership in the seniors’ care sector.

The awards will be presented by the Hon. Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, at a ceremony in Victoria, BC on February 19th.

“Every day, health-care workers in residential care, assisted living and home care, provide the best possible care for seniors,” says Health Minister Adrian Dix. “The BC Care Awards provide us an opportunity to acknowledge this dedication and the incredible impact these individuals make on the people they care for.”

The winners in their respective categories are as follows:

  • 2018 BC Care Provider of the Year (Home Care): Sarah Reiter, Beacon Community Service Home Support Team (located in south Vancouver Island)
  • 2018 BC Care Provider of the Year (Residential Care): Lynda McDermott, Hawthorne Seniors Care Community (located in Port Coquitlam)
  • 2018 BC Care Provider Safety Champion: Shauna Appleyard, Sidney All Care Residence (Sidney, BC)
  • 2018 Ed Helfrich Long Service Excellence Award: Hank Van Ryk, H&H Total Care (Langley, BC)
