Why Investing in Seniors Care Helps the Whole Family” is the new title for a video many of you will recognize from our #CareCanBeThere campaign launched in January 2017. Between the YouTube and Facebook versions, the ad received over 150,000 impressions online. The commercial was also featured in TV news reports on popular B.C. broadcasts.

We have re-launched the video over the holiday season as a reminder of the importance of receiving the right care for elderly family members, at the right time, and in the right place — whether that is at home, or in a residential care home or assisted living housing.

We launched “Care Can Be There” as a positive message to both the seniors care sector and to decision makers in government. It helped to raise awareness of the challenges the whole family faces when you have an elderly parent needing care. The term “sandwich generation” gained new life in our province, in part as a result of our awareness-building campaign.

The same message still resonates today. Family members are facing struggles because they lack both choices for care that they can afford, and the knowledge needed to make the best choices.

Over the coming weeks, BCCPA will be raising even more public awareness, particularly on the topic of employment in the seniors care sector. These are jobs that must be filled for the “care to be there.”
