BC Care Awards – Care Provider of the Year Nominee Rey Balajo

Every year, the BC Care Awards celebrate care providers who go above and beyond delivering care to our seniors.

In this nominee profile, we feature Rey Balajo from Glenmore Lodge for his work enriching the lives of residents.

Why did you decide to work in seniors’ care?

Working in seniors care is an opportunity for me to reciprocate the selfless love, compassion, and invaluable support that many of the elderly people I am caring for have shared with their families and communities.

What’s been the most rewarding experience of your career?

My everyday experiences of spending time with a resident is always rewarding. Through utmost respect and proper care, I can help them fulfil a full and enjoyable life. Their simple gestures of gratitude and warm smiles are more than enough to say I’m making a difference in their lives.

What’s your favourite part about working in seniors’ care?

I  get to hear fascinating stories from residents that take me back to a different time. I also learn valuable insight about the aging process. It helps me understand how I can best look after my residents as well as myself.

BC Care Award winners will be announced in early January. The awards ceremony will take place on February 19th, 2017 at the Fairmont Empress Victoria. Registration is now open for BCCPA members and invited guests.
