Every year, BC Care Providers Association honours continuing care workers who work tirelessly to deliver outstanding care to our seniors.
The BC Care Awards, presented at a ceremony in Victoria, are meant to be more than just a pat on the back. They are a testament of the courage, dedication and compassion of caregivers across the province.
“When a care provider is celebrated for their work, it inspires others to follow their lead,” says Cathy Szmaus, Director of Events & Administration at BCCPA.
“It also reminds them that their efforts are valuable, appreciated, and deserve to be rewarded in a significant way.”
Care home operators tell us how a win for one staff member is a win for the entire team.
“When the team in The Hamlets at Westsyde heard that one their fellow team members were nominated, a sense of pride came over everyone. They were happy that one of the team was being publicly recognized for going beyond the normal call of duty—something that many of them do on a regular basis.”
“Tasia herself came back and shared her experience in being able to speak to government reps about what is working and not working for her as a care team member in health care, being recognized among other industry award winners, and how proud she was being a Hamlets team member.”

“It’s so important to recognize the challenging work continuing care staff engage in, and honour them for their commitment to quality and compassion.”
“As a team, we feel empowered when the efforts of one of our own are publicly acknowledged. We’re proud of Irene, and glad that her service was recognized by the BCCPA in such a meaningful way.”

“Wendy’s win was not only a wonderful acknowledgement of the great care that she has provided clients for many years, but it also positively impacted the Bayshore team around her. For my https://bccare.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/medcare-img22.jpg staff, it was an inspiring team experience to be a part of the celebration as we were all so proud of her accomplishment and how she was honoured.”
“Our coordinators who scheduled Wendy became even closer to her that night, knowing she was a great care worker, but then seeing her ‘beaming’ that night helped them really feel that they were a part of the evening too. They told me how proud they felt to be associated with a company that took the time to recognize their employees, and they also were able to see firsthand who BCCPA was and better understand the work of this association.”
