Opposition BC Liberals announce health critics @Mike_A_Bernier @joan_isaacs

Yesterday afternoon the Opposition BC Liberal Caucus announced that they have appointed Mike Bernier (MLA for Peace River – South, and previously the Minister of Education) and Joan Isaacs (newly elected MLA for Coquitlam-Burke Mountain) as the opposition critics for health as part of their overall shadow cabinet.

This follows the NDP’s announcement that  Hon. Adrian Dix would serve as Minister of Health and MLA for Burnaby-Deer Lake, Anne Kang, had been selected as Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors.

BCCPA works closely with B.C.’s elected officials to support the best interests of our elderly citizens. We are looking forward to working with all three parties —including the BC Green Party— to bring attention to the issues that are affecting the continuing care sector, such as B.C.’s action plan for seniors care, the pending “Bill 16” reforms for assisted living, and plans for the $10 million Seniors Safety and Quality Program being managed by our association.

Before being elected in 2013, Mr. Bernier served the community of Dawson Creek as twice elected Mayor and City councillor. He has two decades of experience in the natural gas industry and has lived in Dawson Creek for 25 years.

Ms. Issacs brings her experience in the in the B.C. financial services industry to her new role as MLA. Most recently, she worked as a business consultant for non-profit and for-profit organizations.

The BCCPA would like to congratulate Mr. Bernier and Ms. Isaacs on their appointments. As an avowedly non-partisan organization, we look forward to working with them, as well as with the governing B.C. NDP and the B.C. Green Party, when the legislature resumes on September 8th.
