Vernon Councillor Says It’s Time for Students & Seniors to Cohabitate

Is it time for students to start living in residential care homes in BC? At least one city councillor in Vernon thinks so. He recently posted a link to an article from the Netherlands where students live and work in a residential care setting in exchange for free rent. Last year a similar program for music students in Cleveland, Ohio was the subject of a CBC National feature story. The students were living in the care home and were putting their natural talent to work by performing regular concerts for the residents.

CBC Radio in Kelowna got to wondering if this concept had merit and what some of the challenges might be to implement it. That’s when they called up Daniel Fontaine, CEO for the BC Care Providers Association to have a discussion on the topic. If you want to listen to the interview, click on the link below.
