Flash Mob Spreads Christmas Cheer

Mall MobSporting festive hats and a Christmas spirit, over 100 seniors joined a group of students in a flash mob of Christmas carols at a Penticton shopping centre.

“It empowers the elderly, it makes them feel like they still have a place,” says Joanne Gillette, Manager at The Hamlets retirement home in Penticton. “You know the glitter and charm is wonderful, but the real purpose of Christmas is about, it’s simple, it’s about love. And feeling that you’re all loved and you belong somewhere.”

Some care homes organize regular outings for seniors to engage and remain connected with their communities. Among the crowd was singing senior, Barb Kelsey. “I’d like to see more of the two generations together. To do this it is so much fun, the seniors that are here just love it!”
