BC Care Providers, its members, and employees working in the long term care sector have joined the worldwide relief effort to aid victims of the devastating typhoon that ripped through the Philippines over the weekend.
“Many care aides and staff working in BC have family and friends who were hit by the typhoon. They have been directly impacted by this tragedy and the BC Care Providers and its members want to show our support as a community,” says President David Cheperdak.
With commendable donations from BCCPA members such as Delta View, Elim Housing Society, and the Greater Vancouver Services Society each donating $5000, Retirement Concepts committing $10,000 (+10K in contributions from their employees), and the Good Samaritan Society collecting $3500, the relief effort is off to a great start. Eden Care has announced they will also be contributing $1000.
Other members such as Broadmead Care Society, Park Place Senior Living, Revera Living, H&H Total Care Services, Northcrest Care Center and Beacon Community Services have also pledged to contribute in the fundraising effort. The BCCPA has also made a contribution on behalf of our entire membership.
The Canadian government has pledged to match donations to registered Canadian charities responding to the crisis prior to December 8th. That means the collective donations by the BCCPA and its members will likely exceed over $65,000. The Hospital Employee’s Union has also committed a commendable $25,000 to the disaster relief effort.
“This industry is about helping others, a concept that extends beyond care homes and beyond borders,” says Cheperdak. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who work in the care sector whose family and friends have been impacted in the Philippines by this horrible tragedy.”
