As Labour Day approaches, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) recognizes and thanks the dedicated professionals who support seniors across British Columbia’s seniors living, wellness, and care sector. Whether working in direct care, hospitality, allied health, administration, maintenance, or leadership, these individuals play an essential role in helping seniors live with dignity, comfort, and connection.
At a time when workforce challenges continue to impact the sector, we acknowledge the skill, compassion, and commitment of those who provide care and support every day. BCCPA remains committed to advocating for investments that strengthen and sustain the workforce, including initiatives that support recruitment, retention, training, workplace safety, and long-term workforce planning. Building a strong and sustainable seniors care workforce requires investing in both current and future workers. BCCPA helps address labour shortages by creating opportunities for people to start and advance rewarding careers in B.C.’s continuing care sector. Through our training programs, individuals gain the skills and experience needed to enter the workforce or advance their careers while supporting seniors across the province.
Building a strong workforce also means investing in the health, safety, and well-being of the people delivering care. Across B.C.’s seniors living, wellness, and care sector, healthcare assistants provide essential support to residents and clients every day. Ensuring this workforce can grow and thrive requires continued investment in recruitment, retention, training, and safe, healthy workplaces.
One way to continue that recognition beyond Labour Day is by creating opportunities for healthcare assistants to learn, connect, and be celebrated for the inspiring work they do. SafeCare BC’s Hearts and Hands conference celebrates healthcare assistants and the important role they play in seniors care across the province. Created specifically for healthcare assistants, Hearts and Hands offers a day of learning, connection, recognition, and inspiration. Attendees will hear from engaging speakers, explore practical ideas they can bring back to their workplaces, and connect with others who understand the opportunities and challenges of care work.
Hearts and Hands is one part of SafeCare BC’s broader work to support the health, safety, and well-being of the workers caring for B.C. seniors. Through education, practical resources, and consultation, SafeCare BC works with employers and workers to help create safer, healthier workplaces.
For employers, Hearts and Hands can also support retention by showing healthcare assistants that their contributions are recognized, their development matters, and they are valued by their organization.
